Peter Annin’s book, The Great Lakes Water Wars, is an in-depth look at the effects people have had on the Great Lakes. An entire chapter is devoted to the diversion of Lake Michigan water via the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal and how Asian carp have put a spotlight on this artificial waterway.
The Asian carp Regional Coordinating Committee is a partnership between state and federal organizations such as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, The Water Reclamation District of the City of Chicago, state departments of natural resources, and a host of others to monitor and propose control measures for Asian carp.
