Photography began as a hobby and a way to connect with my father. A hobbyist himself, Dad put a camera in my hands on my tenth birthday. Over the years I've worked to improve my ability to see, and through travel have been able to capture images from a variety of places in North America and the world.
My style is naturally influenced by landscape photography. I believe that the greater the quality--the crispness, the sharpness of an image, the more emotive weight they will carry, be they landscapes of mountain ranges or landscapes of the human face.
I graduated with a B.A. in history from Grinnell College in 2006, and I enrolled into the University of Missouri School of Journalism in August 2008 to earn a master's degree in photojournalism (expected 2010). I believe that the addition of a narrative component to my photographs will distinguish my work, and to make it more influential.
The latest information about my work can be found on my blog. Furthermore, I critique landscape images as a moderator of the BirdPhotographers.Net (BPN) forums, a cooperative between several professional nature photographers, including Arthur Morris and James Shadle. One of my areas of expertise is high-resolution, multi-image composite (stitched) landscapes. Artie has incorporated many of my techniques into his own workflow, and I am happy to share my suggestions at BPN.
